The real "state of children's literature" in Australia: - reviews are rare as hen's teeth - there's no work for critics who are expert in works for children - creators make podcasts & newsletters to discuss literature since the papers won't - the books are still great

(cont') - many schools don't have a librarian - some schools have no library - even in very well-funded schools, libraries may be sidelined - literacy rates are down - reading for pleasure is down - it's not the books / the books are still great

Emily Gale There are at least a dozen academic experts in children's literature in Australia who could have written an informed piece for TSP instead. There's often an assumption that no knowledge of the field is required and that anyone can sling off an opinion about children's books.
