I agree & appreciate those who responded to my question. I want Ss to have strategies to access text they wouldn’t normally choose to read. I also want them to appreciate reading & have lots of opportunities to hear different voices. I’m searching for a responsible balance.

Lessons from the first day: 1) You can see a person is smiling even if they’re wearing a mask 2) Kids carry an innate joy within them that is contagious 3) Educators are amazing humans 4) WE can do anything if WE believe it’s possible.

My 12yo had a homework assignment to create a timeline of the influential books in her life. I LOVED what she did (and the books she chose!). Inside the books she wrote a blurb about how the book impacted her. ❤️

The events of the last few days are an opportunity to teach students about media bias. Look at how the same story is framed by different news organizations.
