Just heading in to Westminster now. Looking forward to hearing from the speakers about the report’s 12 recommendations. Pleased to see an emphasis on TiC training, roll out of antenatal education & birth afterthoughts models, &more equitable access to maternalMH services, & ++

It’s been a busy & tough-going week. It has taken me a few days to process some of my thoughts about the #BirthTraumaInquiry report that was published on Monday after attending the launch event. I have put some of my reflections in a blog 👇

Now the General Election has been announced, we've never been more clear on the commitment the next Gov needs to make to save babies' lives, improve maternity care & reduce inequities. Our Joint Policy Unit with @sandsuk has set out 5 steps to do this: bit.ly/4cxV2Eg

Let’s try some reframing. British communities lack opportunities for play & sport Children’s health & happiness at risk Decades of under investment in children’s health & wellbeing shows in teenagers quality of life Gov policies have consistently undervalued play & sport

Really interesting paper about which older adults are not opting into Talking Therapies and why. Lovely methodology that could be replicated for other under-represented groups.

Fantastic new guidance from The Lancet for researchers on reporting race & ethnicity; asking authors to explain how they have defined and assigned ethnicity, and to comment on representativeness of their samples #inclusion #representationmatters 🤩 thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Day 2. Out the house before 7 to my eldest’s vehement protests of “not again?”? I did not raise a feminist apparently. 🫠🫠 Today I’m in London again as a #KeynoteListener in our British Psychological Society #unconference on #EDI practice in #PerinatalPsychology bps.org.uk/event/reflecti…

This is such an important report. Maternal Mental Health Services are ground breaking (but I’m biased as I led the team who wrote the policy to create them) but what this report shows is that they are only scratching the surface of the need. #MakeAllCareCount

The increase in the number of MMHS is welcome, providing life-changing support to more women, babies and families. However, the wide variation between services suggests there are not enough resources to meet the needs of the population. maternalmentalhealthalliance.org/MMHS #MakeAllCareCount

Waiting times for treatment in some areas are up to 52 weeks for Maternal Mental Health Services. This is time parents and babies don’t have: maternalmentalhealthalliance.org/MMHS #MakeAllCareCount
