Are you interested on the evolution of neuronal circuits, the functional interaction between neural circuits and glia, or brain-machine interfaces ? We have a few open positions. zebrain.biologie.ens.fr

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of our book we are planning a brief essay on what has followed it. Please comment: how well do new facts conform to the principles it enunciates? Have you found violations? Send us your new examples, doubts, and any new principles.

This year, we are excited to have two new PhD students 😊. We have Ivy (left), supervised by Dr Stu Johnson and Prof Walter Marcotti, and we have Nic (right), supervised by Prof Walter Marcotti and Dr Anton Nikolaev. They've both just started learning the dark art of patching! 🪄

Ever wondered how small the sound detecting "hairs" in your ear actually are? I made a quick video to hopefully give them a sense of scale! At the end you can see three rows of V shaped "amplifying" hair-bundles (Lots of hairs in each) and one of U shaped "detecting" bundles.

How do simple chordate larvae sense water flow and swim upstream? 🌊🧠 Our new preprint from Chatzigeorgiou lab, in collaboration with Tetsuya Hiraiwa, combines behavior, calcium imaging, and modeling to explore this flow-sensing behavior. Read the full story⤵️biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
