Introductions underway from COST members from 27 countries. Such a wide range of scholars- historians of antiquity, medieval, early modern, Enlightenement and 20th century, sociologists, anthropologists and even a psychoanalyst!

Spotted this graffiti on the way to the second day of our PIMo launch People in Motion in the Mediterranean CA18140. Quite fitting given that we will be exploring the competing impulses of welcoming and hostility that have always shaped the reception of migrants moving in the Mediterranean space.

Excellent introductory keynote from Prof. Giancarlo Casale of History at EUI on contrasts and commonalities in the sources on mobility between Early Modern European and Ottoman societies.

Fantastic keynote from Prof Iain Chambers reminding us that while we cannot speak for migrants we should speak alongside them, we should not simply think about migration but rather we should think with migration about the works we live in.

A fantastic few days in Lecce to launch our PIMo project. Thanks to our hosts at beautiful Università del Salento. Was great to develop plans for the next 4 years of the project. We will be tweeting details of the financial support we can offer this afternoon so keep an eye out.
