Pain is pain. Cancer pain isn't special. Cancer is just a socially acceptable disease and docs know the optics for denying cancer patients treatment don't look good.

I've lived with chronic pain for almost half my life. As a doctor, I've been without opioids for half+ of that time. LTOT (long-term opioid therapy) works. LTOT worked for me and my patients.
