this is the NY I know. In new Marist poll, Eric Adams' approval rating is way underwater. (Ah, shocking) what struck me: 1 percent of voters remained undecided.

What Paris is doing is about what congestion pricing (would have) done in NYC - make it so you really don't want to transit the central zone

...which constitute a very brief but sufficient explanation of why you -- but not me -- lived in Bushwick and Harlem after moving to NYC as an adult.

Simple rule of thumb, and see in Italy example, if it comes in a package, don't eat it. If it's processed, don't eat it. Also,if it's before 10 a.m. or after 7 p.m., or if you aren't sitting down and eating a meal, don't eat (period).

The way to look at the Gaetz thing is this: a week after the election, Trump demonstrates in an acute way what everyone knows: he needs constraint. So an essentially day 1 test of what Republicans will step up to the plate. On this one, looks like quite a few, but tbd!

Trump asked about less aid for Ukraine: “Possibly. Yeah, probably. Sure." Revenge prosecutions, abortion, health insurance, NATO, Putin, DACA, all waffles, we'll see, things may change. This is why I watch but don't listen (John N. Mitchell style). shorturl.at/2n2pz

This is interesting but also another case of let's have both, a bit of urban and bit of suburban. No one dare go all-in on the Big City. sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

The country has never seen anything like this, ever. Even in mass immigration of 19C, high native-born birth rates. The idea of the U.S. as a "nation of immigrants" is becoming quite literally true.

Remarkable how population growth has slowed in both the "super-star" cities of the 2010s and the fast-growth Sunbelt and fly-over country cities. This urban crisis is across the board.

As Meta's AI showed, what (lots) of users "want" is sex talk with a 13-year-old, so OpenAI better be careful in declaring they "believe users should have more control over how ChatGPT behaves and, to the extent that it is safe and feasible." techcrunch.com/2025/04/29/ope…

How you know someone is on a whole 'nother level than you: Tadej Pogacar comes up next to Geraint Thomas and wants to talk about a watch he'd like to buy. Thomas: riding 420 watts, "you want to have a conversation now? I just had to focus on breathing. He is on another level".

This is very effective advice from Amanda Caswell. My version is, after going through a line of thinking (my own or that of a particular writer), I ask: what would be the critique of this? See both sides, then evaluate. tinyurl.com/5fxebnye
