This is Dr Bill Thompson. He devoted over 50 years of his life to caring for the people of Lismore. Instead of retiring he had to rebuild his practice to support his community. Doctors have been unjustly attacked this week. They deserve better #vastmajorityofdoctors

“Calls grow louder for federal Health Minister Mark Butler to launch an independent inquiry into Medicare” It’s coming from Adele Ferguson who wrote the story. Sadly this coverage has done irreparable damage to Medicare & public’s trust in their GP. smh.com.au/national/sleep…

“So where did the $8 billion come from? We can only guess. If you take the Medicare budget ($31.4 billion) and multiply it by 25%, you get $7.85 billion.” FINALLY. The maths every doctor in Australia has been dying to see.

“Medicare reimbursements will continue to be the bedrock of our health system for years to come.” Eddie Cliff Tori Berquist & Dr Holt provide the most incisive analysis of Australia’s health system ahead of Medicare reform tomorrow. smh.com.au/national/can-t…

A simple effective measure to improve the efficiency of our health system. The argument about compliance and monitoring can be obviated by doctors reducing the quantity/repeats provided if necessary.

Interesting article on Medicare reform discussions. But at the heart of this is an inescapable fact; that in order to arrest the decline in bulk billing the current MBS fee schedule requires: 1. Increased funding 2. A mechanism to depoliticise future increases.

Quality end of life care should be available to everyone when they need it. It’s not too late for Chris Minns to reverse his cuts to palliative care in NSW. smh.com.au/national/nsw/i…

"But I can’t help thinking that at least some of the problems our patients face don’t need more money, technology or beds – they simply require us to use our moral compass." Another poetically poignant piece by the talented Ranjana Srivastava. Thank you.

150 NSW public sector psychiatrists have tendered their resignations to take effect on Jan 21. With one third of public sector jobs already vacant, this going to be an absolute decimation of an already desperate sector. Angelo Virgona #psychiatry #mentalhealth #psychtwitter

The NSW mental health system is in crisis under the Minns Labor Government. But for Queensland, “never let a crisis go to waste” as they now start to poach our state’s staff psychiatrists - with ads in today’s The Sydney Morning Herald and The Daily Telegraph
