The secret to coaching is to be useful. Build valuable skills like: -Listening -Questioning -Communication -Creating Practice. Write everyday. Say yes to every presentation. Create immediately after learning. Think long horizon development. Work on yourself first.

Thinking coaching is only about your partner’s self-development is a trap. It is about the work you’ve done on yourself. You are responsible for your own personal development. People will know if you haven’t worked on yourself before you attempt to work with them.

Want to get better? Find someone who has a positive impact on others and embodies elements of everything you want. -ask questions about process -ask questions about impact -listen curiously -plan action -take action Chase it on your terms. Mentors are hiding in plain sight.

Nothing says ‘please stop sharing’ more than a person who responds w/ “I used to do that….or, I did that years ago..” Curious learner first, narrating your story last: -ask about the problem they solved -ask about their process for creating -ask about how they plan to use it

Hard to be a successful coach who says they want to help people flourish, but your actions indicate that you know everything you need to know. You try to ‘fix’ people. It doesn’t work. At that point, you realize you should’ve worked on yourself before working w/others.

You’re overthinking the planning phase: - get the ideas out of your head - set a goal - list the actions - take one small step today - ignore what others will think - iterate tomorrow - expect improvements/growth Expect clarity through action & improvement through consistency

Striving to ‘get it right’ the first time, will leave you stranded in ‘planning’ at the outset or ‘negativity’ on the backend. - expect imperfections - set a date to launch - obsess over the build - experiment - assess - iterate after Attack a similar project w/ new knowledge.

It’s easy to find the negatives. Right now, there is a teacher: - unlocking a level of self-belief for a student. - redesigning their entire week for Ss. - sharing their positive beliefs about a student to challenge other’s views. You’ll find the positives, start looking!

Want control? Set a goal. A goal that consumes you. One that you can’t stop thinking about. The kind of goal that is somehow connected to everything you consume in a day. That direction is where new discoveries and growth exist. Follow that path, see what’s out there.
