Coscoroba swans are native to southern South America and are the smallest swan species (8-10 lbs). Although they are called a swan, recent genetic studies have revealed they are an intermediate (genetic link) between swans and true geese or even between swans and whistling ducks.

The sounds of the rainforest. Here's a great look at golden-headed lion tamarins, Leo and Luda, seen here foraging and vocalizing. These stunning callitrichids weigh only 15-25 ounces and are found only in an extremely small section of Brazil.

A purrrfect look at Sylvie, one of two Canada lynx here at the Zoo. #DYK In smaller cat species, such as cheetahs, cougars, lynx, ocelots, and servals the voice box is rigid, and capable of producing a purr sound.

These supremely camouflaged birds may not be easy to see, but they can definitely be heard. The whinnies and trills of this tiny owl will certainly catch your attention. Sherlock the #screechowl demonstrates to our guests and students how well they blend into their environment.
