For Day 2 of #VolunteerWeek, here's an example of what #BSBImembers achieved: they collected >30 million records of 3,495 plant species which fed into #PlantAtlas2020, the most in-depth survey ever undertaken of British & Irish wild plants. Brilliant work! plantatlas2020.org

Inspired by Karen Andrews’s amazing pic of an Ivy Broomrape growing in a very inhospitable location, this week’s challenge is #GridPlants! So inspect your drains & cattle grids, rural or urban & see what you can find blooming for #wildflowerhour this Sunday 8-9pm!!

If you need more inspiration for plants in unusual places for this week’s #BSBI #gridplants #wildflowerhour challenge … how about this great Greater Bird’s-foot Trefoil masquerading as a newly planted tree?

Happy to provide the inspiration for this week’s #BSBI #GridPlants #wildflowerhour It will be fascinating to see what plants other botanists find in unusual places! 😀😀😀

More plants in unusual places as inspiration for this week’s #GridPlants for #wildflowerhour How about a new red style, green roof courtesy of Herb Robert as seen in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire?

Can you find a more resilient plant for this week’s #GridPlants for #Wildflowerhour than this Dandelion? This one thinks it is a wall plant, growing upright and sideways out of a wall, even partially in mid-air!

This Ivy-leaved Toadflax is colonising an old village telephone box. The public telephone has long gone but the plant is taking over INSIDE its new home. Presumably it has access to running water? #GridPlants #wildflowerhour

Wow, amazing news! Huge congratulations to our friend, orchidologist & top plant spotter Richard Dr Richard Bate, who has refound Britain's rarest orchid after 30 years! As its #PlantAtlas2020 page says, this is 'the most arduously sought British plant' plantatlas2020.org/atlas/2cd4p9h.…

Wall Lettuce Mycelis muralis is always delightful but it’s annoying that it shows it’s #GridPlants side several weeks too late for the #WildflowerHour challenge!

It’s come to my attention that a number of people are planning to look for this plant. Sorry but it is now gone. If you are intending to search for these plants can you please do so responsibly - and be careful at sensitive sites, that are delicate. Heavy trampling damages them.

My first-ever sighting of Marsh Gentian today with Wiltshire Botanical Society’s weekend in the New Forest, Hampshire. I really didn’t expect such a stunningly large flower. It was worth the soaking and wait for the sunshine after the heavy rain. #wildflowerhour.

A part of natural variation, many of our favourite wildflowers can also be found in white! A little different, the challenge this week is to share any #WhiteForm flowers that you’ve found this year. Share your pics for #WildflowerHour this Sunday 8-9pm!
