Trade unions need to accept that the party they once founded has been captured by a different social class with different class interests and policy agenda. It's time to set up something new.

Jonathan Reynolds and two senior staff went to Glastonbury as guests of YouTube. Until then, Labour was promising to increase the digital service tax from 2% to 10%. Literally the day after the festival, it emerged that Reynolds had ditched the policy. novaramedia.com/2024/09/23/rep…

A party representing working people would also be a party of protest - mobilising working people in support of left policies in the face of the inevitable hostility of capital. The false dichotomy she poses here sums up Labour's post-left managerialism.

Also, for a genuine left party there should be no separation between government and protest. Mass mobilisation is the most powerful tool of a left party/government.

Yes, and it's not just performative, to show you're different, but rooted in the materialist analysis of politics: you can hardly represent people if you're completely detached from their living conditions and experiences.

Excellent speech! It has to be followed by concrete action from Unite and other unions against this neoliberal government. Cut the ties, set up a new party. It's not just the credibility of the Labour Party at stake but of the whole labour movement. We know who'll benefit from it

If you suspect that the opinions of the rich and powerful diverge from the general population’s, you may be right. I spoke to Aaron Reeves , co-author of the new book Born to Rule, about why affordable housing is less of a priority for the British elite insidehousing.co.uk/insight/oxford…

Nigel Farage likes to complain about migrants on small boats, but doesn't seem to have a problem with migration if the people are wealthy, as he's speaking at an event organised by Nomad Lifestyle, for "global citizens discussing second citizenship." novaramedia.com/2024/09/19/nig…

If the loss of freebies and donations is what would deter some people from entering politics, then they're not that much of a loss.

If bad guys are hiding behind innocent people, that's not a justification to drop bombs on them, but precisely the reason to NOT drop bombs on them. "Human shields" argument is basic common sense turned upside down.
