In her thesis film for her Master’s degree at Chapman University, director Phumi Morare tells a gripping tale of a woman desperately searching for her student activist brother during the South African 1985 State of Emergency. The film is a 2021 Student Academy Award winner.

Phumi Morare In “small details BIGGER PICTURE” 21yr old Thando Bungane speaks to her peers about the then upcoming 2024 elections. She unpacks “the profound impact of voting through personal and historical lenses.” An AFDA offering.

Phumi Morare “Muffin Top” follows Piper as she struggles to decide between the risk of leaving her small town in pursuit of an education, or the safety of accepting a (much needed) managerial job at her local bakery. Written and directed by Lumka Sibeko. AFDA

Phumi Morare In “Mbokodo” UCT student, Nakesa Ndou, is sensitive and masterful in her crafting of a harrowing portrait of Sizani, an 8yr old girl who uses rocks as characters to tell a story of violation.
