My first two Adders of the year in N Kent this morning, included this melanistic individual. I don't recall seeing melanistic at all last year.

We’ve booted the Tories out but what’s left of them must be held accountable for the catastrophic damage their flagship Brexit policy has inflicted on the country If you agree RT this widely & let’s get started

I just counted 3 butterflies in the Big #ButterflyCount : 2 Gatekeeper & 1 Green-veined White. This in my garden in N Kent. The number is well down on that for 2023 when I recorded several more species. Help Butterfly Conservation 🦋 & join in …erflycount.butterfly-conservation.org/count/24574079 #ButterflyCount

This evening was Dame Denise Lewis' final show as part of the BBC's athletics coverage. A brilliant career, after a brilliant career. She will now take up a role as President of UK Athletics. Thank you for a wonderful 15 years, Dame Denise Lewis. ❤️ #Paris2024 #BBCOlympics

(1/) It’s now three weeks until the 2025 Breeding Bird Survey and Waterway Breeding Bird Survey season starts on 1 April! Today's main message is that habitat recording isn’t as complicated as it may initially sound! The top habitat level (Level 1) is the most important.

Day 2 on Lesvos, which got better for birds as the day wore on, culminating in a superb Isabelline Shrike and male Baillons Crake. The Little Owl seen prior to that feigned complete disinterest with proceedings!

Day 5 Lesvos. A pair of Great Spotted Cuckoo put on quite a show near Molyvos reservoir. The male would often feed a grub to the female, standing on her back in doing so. Other birds today included Little Bittern, Red-backed Shrike, Tawny Pipit, and Short-toed Lark.

Some highlights from a trip to SW Turkey in early May where mountains to the north of coastal resorts offer superb birding. Pics 1-4 show White-throated Robin, Red-fronted Serin, Rock Bunting, and Ruppell's Warbler. All seen near the scenic village of Seki and highlands beyond.
