An approach to transforming “field per line” data sets to a more traditional “row per record” structure using @Tableau Prep: bitfern.co.nz/blog/transform… … part 1 based on a really intriguing recent question on the Tableau Forums.

#PreppinData 2024 wk 9, and I figured I’d better give the #prep1stepclub a go after writing about it last week! Definitely a different way to think about the problem, and the flow is harder to understand / maintain… but fun! Some non-deterministic sort order diffs 🤷🏽‍♂️

Hey #datafam, part 2: a better way to transform “field per line” data in Tableau Prep. Using a record number calc and pivot (rows to columns). bitfern.co.nz/blog/transform…

#PreppinData 2024 week 10. Great to try out the “New Rows” step / functionality in Tableau Prep this week to easily fill in missing dates!

For this week's #PreppinData we're looking at dates! Specifically, how would they change if we had 13 equally sized months in a year instead of 12? 🤔 Carl Allchin's biggest question is what would the new month be called? 🤔 preppindata.blogspot.com/2024/03/2024-w… Tom Prowse

#PreppinData 2024 wk 11: what if there were 13 months in a year? Turns out there wouldn’t be! But it was fun using Tableau prep to definitively calculate that the main extra month would be called Jumo (coincidentally slang for extremely drunk?). And the spare days… Extrember?

#PreppinData 2024 wk 12. Fun times with different settings for “new rows”. Less fun times with compounding interest; a bit too much like real work! I’ve done something wrong / different re interest, and took a shortcut on the join it seems 😬

#PreppinData 2024 wk 13, and … that’s a solid quarter done on Tableau Prep! What to do next quarter? Weighing up Tableau data dev, or Pulse perhaps? Reflections on the quarter of Prep: bitfern.co.nz/blog/tableau-p… Thx to the Prep crew and participants; a great way to learn! 🙏🏼🤓

We're continuing Michał's #PreppinData challenge this week. We'll be diving in a little deeper to investigate category spending at a monthly level. preppindata.blogspot.com/2024/04/2024-w… Carl Allchin Tom Prowse

Considering participating in #IronViz? The new version of the Colour Manager for Tableau might be helpful. Lots of UX improvements with drag&drop support for palettes and all colours. Also, now with #Datafam Colors! vizku.nz/cmt/ (1/x)

Can you share some deets on unfinished Tableau projects #datafam? We all see the wealth of amazing published and shared work… but how many awesome ideas never see the light of day? Heather Cox and I are keen to hear more, and we think it could really help the community!

A “better” LOD equivalent of RANK / INDEX in #Tableau, using spatial functions 🗺️. I hope you never have to use it in a production dashboard 😬, but it’s a fun ongoing challenge! 🤓 bitfern.co.nz/blog/lod-equiv…

Sounds like votes are open just a little bit longer if you didn’t yet get your #thevizzies nominations in yet! A great way to reflect on a year of cool content and those that have helped you or others in the Tableau community 🗳️
