For friends involved with field studies of #Biology or #ecology: There's a new international survey seeking information about scientists who died during fieldwork between 2000 and today. If you knew anyone and would consider sharing info, here's the link: emorymedicine.sjc1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_8i…

Do I know anyone in Saskatchewan? Do you? I am particularly keen to find out whether or not candy-striped spiders are there (yet)! There were records, but they turned out to be mis-IDs. This is the only province where they may not be! x.com/Cataranea/stat…

“The name Clingman is not derogatory in and of itself, but the history shows the act of changing the name of Kuwahi to Clingmans Dome was racist and the racist action should be acknowledged and corrected”

My dudes Ben Freeman and Eliot Miller have a beaut out today in Science Magazine! Great use of eBird data to show that narrow montane range limits are probably due to competition between species. Well done! science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Holy. Cow. Did you know that during migration, 1/2 of the estimated population of Whimbrel roosts on ONE sandbar in SC?? I sure didn't. Not sure I've ever seen more than a few at one time. Super interesting research by Maina Handmaker @NRSenner et al. youtube.com/watch?v=KSr6V3…

It was a historic night at Woodend Nature Sanctuary. On 10/20, members adopted Nature Forward as the organization's new name. The last such vote took place in 1959. The evening also featured a wonderful talk given by Rodney Stotts, one of America’s few Black master falconers.
