After trying on and off for almost a year, I have FINALLY got secondary structure cartoons for proteins working inside of #blender3d and #GeometryNodes. Need to test on beta-sheets, then it should make its way to #MolecularNodes pretty soon!

Out of the printer and off for delivery to Japan. This is Staphylococcus aureus FtsZ 12-316, a protein involved in bacterial cell division. If you have a protein dataset you'd like 3D printed, send caseysteffen a #3Dprint request buff.ly/3Ow6inV

✅ Compute Hydrogen bond networks ✅ Implement SS detection algorithm ✅ Generate completely customisable cartoon mesh, controllable by the user using fields A little more testing is needed, but secondary structures are coming to #MolecularNodes soon! #GeometryNodes #blender3d

I keep going on about it, but it just works so ludicrously well. If you have control over the generation of your secondary structure cartoons, you can do sneaky little reveals like this one 🙈🙉 #MolecularNodes #GeometryNodes #Blender3d

Max Perutz was born #OTD in 1914. He was one of the first scientists to determine a protein structure by solving the structure of haemoglobin. He shared the 1962 The Nobel Prize in Chemistry with John Kendrew. View the structure in 3D at PDBe.org/1fdh/3d

Here's a recent project we completed of #HIV Capsid Structure. Tthe brass rods fit right betweem twp capsids and holds the model vertically. Turned out great. Send us a #3Dprint request if you have molecule or protein dataset you'd like to display. buff.ly/439KJRk

As Stuart Hameroff and Sir Roger Penrose suggest, Tryptophan residues in #microtubules influence #consciousness. In this 3D print of Microtubule 3J2U, we can see how TRP residues (tinted dark) interconnect adjacent #Tubulin molecules. #structuralbiology buff.ly/3J2MWGI

Lots of fun was had today by students in my 4th year #Virology course with these amazing virion structures from Biologic Models Thanks University of Waterloo Science Endowment Fund (WatSEF) for enabling us to hold these in our hands and discuss them in the context of what we learn in class.
