Drama at Kelvinbridge in Glasgow. Mother Goosander and her chicks head up river but the Kelvin is high and fast. Hungry Heron waits. Heron attacks, inches away from grabbing one of the chicks... eventually two other Goosanders mob Heron and the family passes by safely, this time.

A pair of Avocets flew in to visit RSPB Baron’s Haugh, where these pics were taken through the heat-haze, and RSPB Lochwinnoch, over the weekend. These are often seen down south but have only ever been seen in the Clyde area a few times.

Two healthy Peregrine chicks were ringed at University of Glasgow three weeks ago but it became clear over the last few days that one of them - 33R or 'Jack', pictured here on Sunday - was seriously ill. He had to be put down yesterday as suffering with suspected avian flu.

Left alone by their parents for a few minutes, these Great Crested Grebe siblings started doing what looked like the courtship dance that adults do. Running their lines for when they grow up and find their own mates to dance with? Hogganfield Loch, Glasgow.

Some detail of juvenile Peregrine 34R at University of Glasgow, taken while a licensed handler was working with the grounded bird last weekend. Nictitating membrane over the eyes; still some down showing on the back; the fierce claws; his hooked beak and tongue.

Up before the farmers and down to Longhaugh Point on the Clyde. The whole place bursting with life in the solstice sunrise. The very first corner of hedgerow I came to had juveniles of Blue Tit, Great Spotted Woodpecker, Swallow, Stonechat, and more.
