Justin Hurwitz (composer for La La Land, Whiplash, etc.) didn't know how to use a DAW until La La Land. He started learning it during pre-production for the film. You can learn by doing. You don't need to know how to do things before you start doing the thing.

In terms of stop lights, "red light" refers to something that means stop. But it in terms of health "red light" is something you should be doing daily, and I like to tell myself in that case it stands for "go, go, go!"
