We are so excited to be a National Blue Ribbon school. Let's go All Stars! Aldrich Elementary #Proud2bmps
Mrs. Svacina showed us the Hydroponic Garden and we were able to help pick lettuce and see the roots. This ties perfectly into our Unit of Inquiry as we are just learning how a plant is a system and roots are part of the system. Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP #Proud2bmps
Thank you, Mrs. Matthews, for talking to the second graders about your job at Verdure and how you work with plants. What a perfect real-world connection to our line of inquiry about how plants grow. Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP #Proud2bmps
What a fantastic honor to represent Aldrich Elementary in Washington DC and accept the National Blue Ribbon Schools award. We are …All Stars! Aldrich Elementary Heidi Penke John Schwartz
Thank you to the Millard School Board for helping us learn about debates and voting. We had fun having you part of our lesson! Aldrich Elementary Heidi Penke
Students participated in a reverse classroom to learn about how Abraham Lincoln was a good citizen. Groups completed a KWL chart, listened to information, and shared what was learned with the class. Aldrich Elementary Heidi Penke #IBPYP
Students are working on their guided inquiry projects about a famous person during Genius Hour. They are using Pebble Go to research and Keynote to present their research. Great way to end the semester! Aldrich Elementary Heidi Penke #IBPYP
Students are working as glue engineers. They learned about ingredients and worked as a collaborative team to make their first glue. They tested it to see how many beans would stick to a card. Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP
Our glue engineers worked through the Engineering Design Process to create the perfect glue which they used to make a picture frame. Love our real world Unit of Inquiry! Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP
Mini IB Exhibition has begun! Students chose their country and began researching their first line of inquiry. Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP
Using a reverse classroom and student agency, students "traveled" to Barcelona, Spain to learn about its culture for our Olympic Team meeting. They learned about Antoni Gaudi and his impact on Barcelona. Aldrich Elementary #BPYP
Students presented skits about the service industry for our Unit of Inquiry on the economy. Aldrich Elementary MPS Elem Ed
It's amazing what happens when you give students agency and choice. This child told me at conferences that he would add more details to his writing if he could type it. I grudgingly agreed and I'm glad I did! Even old teachers can learn new tricks! Aldrich Elementary #IBPYP
We had a fun week long celebration after working collaboratively as a class to earn 200 points. Big stuffed animal day and blanket day were the top two favorites! Aldrich Elementary
Mini IB Exhibition is complete! Here is a clip from one presentation. This process mirrors what they will do in 5th grade for their culminating IB research project. It is amazing what 2nd graders can do. Aldrich Elementary #proud2bmps #IBPYP
Students matched a subject and a predicate to make a silly sentence. Then they worked together to create an illustration to match. Aldrich Elementary #proud2bmps
