Started following hardtech startups like Terraform Industries, Varda Space Industries and the optimism is soo infectious. Seriously anyone in the dev/infra/dist database space should take their jaded hearts and take a look at those weird physics phds are doing

not convinced that anyone who talks like this has worn a tie in this century. ties died 50 years ago. saying you hate ties when they haven't been relevant in your lifetime is pure performance. if you want to be counter-cultural, hate business casual

I’d be interested to see what the impact of their other distribution channels are like on this number. E.g consumption via Azure, Bing etc

Not sure why you would exclude this. Most things a commercial enterprise would open source are enabling and not core…. That’s usually why they do it (e.g Cassandra, Kafka, Clickhouse, Cadence etc)

Years ago vicki sent me a wonderful essay on exactly this. Sadly, it's only available on the internet archive now: web.archive.org/web/2024031317…

The amount of genius level attempts at the neuralink compression challenge who get rid of the noise and still call it lossless is... *chefs kiss*

The difference between Kafka 4.0 and 3.0 will be awesome: - No ZooKeeper - Tiered Storage - New Rebalance Protocol (848) - EOS support in Connect - State Updater Thread in Streams - Improved Txn Protocol (890) - Custom Stream Task Assignment (924) #apachekafka is on a roll!

Truth. You do enough serious GenAI stuff, you end up spending most of your time on the same old ML and data science problems

This whole post is the best example of how SQL is not great, but it's the best solution we have to the problem right now

Super excited to be a part of the OpenSearch foundation as it creates license stability and confidence in collaboration.

Looks like Redis is trying to take over the all the OSS Redis libraries. Jedis, Lettuce, and redis-py are down, they are now threatening redis-rs (link in reply).
