How many chapters of a book do you typically read before you throw it on the DNF pile?

So many people quit at 3 chapters or less, it seems. I guess that's why agents want you to query with 3 chapters. I'm now really wondering if my own first 3 hook people or scare them away. 🤔

Book finished, published, being read... Then I get the urge to start hacking it to bits. Is this something I should do? Or is it best to just leave it as it is, and move on?

A part of me wishes I believed in God. It must be nice to feel the comfort of a higher power guiding you through life. But I don't. For me, there's just birth and death and life in between. An atheist's curse.

Should prequels be released after the main story? If they are released first, does that mean they aren't a prequel?

Is a 50,000 word story a novel, or a novella? Would the length of a novel make any difference to whether or not you chose to read it?

I re-read chapters 1-3 of a novel I was querying last year. Chapters 2 and 3 need work. If there's one lesson we authors should learn, it's give your book time to breathe before you decide if it's ready. Easier said than done.
