Every team has a culture and it is the creative sum of everyone on a team. It is their shared values, beliefs, and behaviors. Most teams create core values, but most often it is nothing more than words. Great teams transform their core values into observable, productive habits.

Conflict within a team is inevitable. How that conflict is handled will ultimately determine the success of a team. Great teams have strong internal leaders that face adversity. They collaborate and rise above it. They use conflict to grow and strengthen their team.

College coaches look for more than just talent. They definitely look for athletes with high character that always give their best effort no matter what the score or situation. They look for players that are coachable, positive, gritty, and bring out the best in their teammates.

Don’t depend on others to build your confidence or validate your sense of worth. You must believe & have confidence in yourself. Take control of the things that you can control. Work hard and always compete. Have a positive and optimistic attitude. Be honest and trustworthy.

In sport, successful athletes learn how to emotionally detach themselves from things that can't be changed. When you are focusing on things outside of your control, you are draining your positive energy and wasting time. It leads to anxiety, frustration, and fear.

A group of players become a winning team when everyone: 1) has a shared vision and purpose; 2) encourage and support one another; 3) put the team first; 4) take responsibility for their personal roles; 5) compete every day; and 6) learn how to quickly bounce back after setbacks.

Every member of a team is there for a purpose. They have a role to play and it is their responsibility to play that role to the best of their ability. All players have a responsibility to their team, their coaches, and to themselves.

High performing athletes build and sustain confidence through their self-talk. As athletes prepare for competition, their internal dialogue must be positive, supportive, encouraging, and strong. Positive self-talk is a skill that must be worked on every day.

Success favors the teams that have the most mental toughness. They know there is a fine line between winning and losing. They compete every possession. They play through mistakes. They're resilient. They stay united. They never stop believing in themselves & their teammates.

I cannot stop watching this interview. Coaches, show this interview to your team ASAP. In a world of entitlement and quick gratification, this is so refreshing to see.
