i almost said "rip this panel" but akane looking at ranma like that while he calls her a coward in tears is so fucking funny 😭😭😭 just joyfully going "test me again boy, i'm waiting"

he's actually saying it to her (in the manga he's just thinking it) (making the guy date you in exchange of the instant spring and then getting pissed about it is crazy lmfao) this is obvious enough that you might not "need" this exchange, so it's notable we have it anyway

I do think Ranma comes across as a jerk in this episode lol, especially after Akane actually ends up crying and apologizing (for not trusting him... after he's been swearing his sincerity to Shampoo lol? you can't do that and then expect everyone to know you didn't mean it lol)

But I'm so happy they let Akane show her true strength and shatter that wall !! (after they weirdly nerfed her strength in the early s1 episodes--showing her having trouble lifting the stone statue in the garden, etc.)

Also the moment when Ranma accidentally pops in and saves Akane, they really made it dramatic, even giving a blur filter for Akane bracing and opening her eyes! How close they are here lol

I also love how they animated Soun getting up and rushing in to save his daughter (instead of just standing up in the manga) despite probably knowing he'd get destroyed. Genma would leave Ranma to fend for himself, but Soun does really care about his family

I saw someone say "I'd love to eat Akane's ramen" after this week's intro and I'm like, this is what you get when you skip the breaking point arc. When will ryoga return ((next week)) I truly hope the breaking point has just been moved, not skipped...???

this. ranma's a good kid overall but his rough, rude edges remind us how he was brought up by genma to take every opportunity and use any tactics to get his goal. it's thanks to akane that he grows and realizes a lot of things, like his reflection in the battle dogi arc
