The Appium team has announced a maintenance and EOL plan for Appium 1.x. Basically, it will be bugfix-supported for 6 months following the release of Appium 2.0. Appium 2.0 has been in beta for well over a year, time to kick the tires if you haven't yet! github.com/appium/appium/…

If Appium held a collaborator summit with the OpenJS World this June in Austin, would anyone be interested to come and (a) meet about contributing to Appium, or (b) meet to learn about developing Appium drivers and plugins?

We'll assume Node.js experience and Appium familiarity. Feel free to ping me on here with any more questions. It will be a small group and informal, hoping to enable folks that are building (or thinking of building) drivers/plugins on the Appium 2.0 platform.

The next Appium 2 beta (which you should be using, since Appium 1.x is no longer supported!) will have a change to the minimum supported Node.js version. It is technically a breaking change. Details here: github.com/appium/appium/…
