I am thinking about data authorship today. Does the elevation of data as an important scholarly product mean that we need to be more careful about authorship inclusion and order?

Researchers often collect/store data in spreadsheets (still). One easy switch is storing data in a software package that allows adding variable & value labels (Stata, SPSS). This helps everyone on the project. The return on investment continues when they share their data.
