With the air thick with Sahara dust, the desert like landscapes of Baza finally warmed up enough to coax the insect inhabitants into action. The star of the show, this female Spanish Greenish Black-tip - Euchloe bazae bazae, a Spanish endemic, and a lifer for Mick, Lynn and I!!!

Another species that was new to me in the semi desert landscape of Baza yesterday was this Spectacled Warbler, which appeared to be doing well along the Barrancos that criss crossed the area.

Heading north through Spain a couple of days ago we stayed at a campsite at Calamocha where Lynn found this absolute monster hanging off a wire fence! This is Europe's largest moth, the Giant Peacock Moth - Saturnia pyri. We measured it's wingspan as 152mm, Wow!!! humongous!!!

Earlier this week I came across this unusual male Azure Damsel-Coenagrion puella at Croft Pascoe Valley Pools, Goonhilly Downs. Shocking photo, but notice the "U" shape mark on segment 2 of the abdomen is completely filled in with black! Plus the side of thorax has expanded black

On Christmas Eve I discovered the sad demise of the Great Wheal Seton Calciner Chimney. While we were there my son Adam shot a drone video showing me leaving the site, followed by a close fly by of the shattered stack and then a circle of the wetland. youtu.be/dtXm1nTMDRg
