I'm not a coauthor on this, but CMU Database Group alum Huanchen Zhang's latest paper is a big deal. Robust Predicate Transfer is sideways information passing on pure meth. DBMS reads all inputs first to build Bloom filters, then figures out the best join ordering automatically.
