My love's years of undiagosed Alzheimer's, resulted in many misunderstandings and many tears. Our deep love for each other kept us together. JOY! EndAlz

To ALL of our incredible Minnesota and North Dakota volunteers: You strengthen, empower and inspire our communities. 💜 Your stories of love and hope remind others they are not alone and move the fight to #ENDALZ forward. During #NationalVolunteerWeek and always, we thank you!

Even when a person doesn't know why they are afraid, we can comfort and support them. (image: @bearessentially) #Alzheimers #dementia #mentalhealth #quote

#AlzChat For several years, my love was in an amazing “Living Well”program, where persons living with Early Stage had opportunities to participate in the arts, as well, as write poetry! My heart sings recalling the incredible poems shared by PLWA. They surprised themselves❣️

#AlzChat Never underestimate what may be tucked below the surface of a person we may consider incapable or unresponsive. Be ready to share the JOY of an unexpected, appropriate response! 💜

Mary Margaret yes.. and we find that staff or carers are often surprised too. Given time and pen and paper we've met many people who write poetically about their experiences: 'I see stars through the holes in my mind. I hear cogs turning. I am still breathing.' #AlzChat

Please re-Tweet to raise awareness: "Don't think of people with #dementia as not having abilities. They have an ability to feel and interact and we need to try and enter into their world." (image: 🦌 marie goudreau 👩‍💻 🦅🇨🇦 🧚🏼) #Alzheimers #EndAlz #quote

#AlzChat I learned, very early, after my love’s diagnosis, a support group of other caregivers, was very helpful, through the @alzMNNAssociation. I learned ONE PERSON,IS ONE PERSON, LIVING WITH THE DISEASE. SUPPORTING each other, LISTENING and BEING PRESENT are GIFTS.

Mary Margaret yes..one of the advantages of letting ppl know is the potential for emotional and wellbeing support and an understanding that dementia affects each person differently as we have so unique innate, social, health, cultural, spiritual and emotional factors at play. #AlzChat

#AlzChat It is so important NOT TO THINK OR FEEL WE ARE ALONE…either, as caregivers, or persons with the disease. When we can walk hand in hand, with others experiencing the disease,we feel stronger, heard, even less angry, fearful, alone.
