I loved how Sharon L. Stein followed a 🚺 med student on her path to becoming a surgeon. More data in surgery but same trends for a Women in Anesthesiology . Disparities in LOR, attrition, board certification, & domestic responsibilities. #AnesGR Duke AWS Ashley Choi MD MHS Lola Fayanju (she/her, [email protected])

I love how Duke AWS brings together an interdisciplinary force- the only way to the wide lens needed for culture change. Enjoying the chance to reflect on how the biases we want to confront propagate in unexpected ways to training structures and cross-specialty interactions.

I’ve said it before: medicine has a race problem and it’s time for medical professionals to get on board with doing the hard work to rectify it. We owe it to our colleagues, ourselves and most importantly our patients to do better and be better.

“The care you deliver heals you too.” Loved this beautiful reminder from today. We talk often about vicarious trauma, but very little about the vicarious healing that happens when we help others move toward wellness. It changes who we are and is at the heart of this profession.

The wellbeing of pregnant and birthing people has emerged as both a leading indicator and a bellwether for the wellbeing of all of us, especially those who are most vulnerable. Nearly every societal injustice is evident in the health of those who are pregnant.

Must read. “Black patients had ~3x more hypoxemia that was not detected by pulse oximetry as White patients. ...reliance on pulse oximetry to triage patients and adjust supplemental oxygen levels may place Black patients at ⬆️ risk for hypoxemia.” Link: nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
