Never. Stop. Reading. Aloud. To. Students. Reading aloud offers the listeners a chance to interact with higher leveling thinking without having to do the heavy lifting of decoding. Some students NEED this! edutopia

When we say students' 1st languages have no value at school, Ss can internalize that their cultures are also not valued. In the end, Ss will think that they must hide or erase their identity to be valued in society.

We're not really committed to the wellbeing of children if we're not committed to the wellbeing of the adults who we expect to attend to the wellbeing of the children. That requires institutional reconstruction: rethinking policy, hiring, everything. A program can't do that.
