🧵My best friend (Black woman) & I were pregnant at the same time 18 yrs ago. We both had preeclampsia, hers undiagnosed as her symptoms were written off. I was put on bed rest & hospitalized. She was told to relax. A week after she gave birth, the day my son was born, she died.

Along with over 100 other organisations, we have signed a letter to John Swinney calling on him to put the Human Rights Bill at the heart of his new government's agenda. It can help create the more just Scotland we all want to see. #AllOurRights rb.gy/8h0b5k
This funding means we can continue and expand the vital #mentalhealth support for the #Ukrainiancommunity 🥳 Thank you John Hawryluk 🏴🏰🇺🇦 and AUGB Edinburgh 🇺🇦🇪🇺 for your support. The joint deputation was a great testimony to the #strongpartnership we've built over the last few years.
Scotland's ethnic minority diversity has increased between 2011 - 2022. 8.2% - 12.9% Significant increases in Polish and African ethnic groups. Without migration Scotland's population would have decreased. Migration positively benefits Scotland. @migrationpolicyscotland
Today's Office for National Statistics (ONS) stats show the devastating impacts of extreme poverty and deprivation on children's life chances. The mortality rate for infants living in the most deprived areas in England was almost 3x higher than in the least deprived. ❌ This is not okay.
Such a great sense of solidarity at The Poverty Alliance members meeting today on Stigma and Poverty, learning from other orgs across Scotland what work for them. Key take away was Agnieszka Morrison "Systems work well for people who create them, but don't need them" Oft - that was powerful.
I'll never forget the first members meeting I attended, and Annie McCormack message: "This is a safe space". She was not wrong. Thank you David Reilly and The Poverty Alliance for bringing us all together and let the compassion, mutual understanding and hope flow.
Did you know 69% of charities in Scotland employ no paid staff? That means over 2/3rds of Scottish charities are run entirely by volunteers! Take a look at our Sector Overview Report for more key facts and figures this #VolunteersWeekScot 👇 Volunteer Scotland 💚 buff.ly/3yO7yQl
Feniks hosted the first meeting of the Cross-Party Group on Ukraine Health and Wellbeing Working Group, chaired by Stevie Carr. We’re excited to plan our contributions to the cross-party group addressing the barriers to health Ukrainians face in Scotland.
We were pleased to see every issue raised in our statements to UN Treaty Bodies reflected in their recommendations, including: - Quicker adoption of a new Race Equality Action Plan - Improved data collection - Revising the no recourse to public funds rule
BEMIS welcome the concluding observations of the CERD UN Treaty Bodies on their review of UK / Scotland. We would like to thank Scottish Human Rights Commission for their pro active engagement and advice. Some critical recommendations for First Minister Kaukab Stewart MSP we must address together
