Counterpoint: why? Why novels in general? Why this one in particular? Moreover, what's wrong with fifteen-second TikTok videos?

When I was a less experienced academic I occasionally got 'warnings' from certain senior academics. I wish I could go back in time and call them out for their absolute (I realise now) bullshit. Warnings don't help people in developing their career and work, support does.

I have hesitated to share these thoughts because I’m not one who is very comfortable with attention, but I feel it necessary to bring to attention anxieties I’ve had regarding the upcoming #FHSS Congress, mutual aid, and the most marginalized in academia (very long)
