#OTD in 1916, his 24th birthday, Charles Edward Grime, a barber from West End, Oswaldtwistle and a lance corporal with 1/East Lancashire, was wounded at Beaumont Hamel. His account of the fighting appeared in the Accrington Observer and Times three weeks later.
