During the election, there was a lot of talk about people of color moving towards Trump. This afternoon at Junior Americanist Workshop Series I'll share my research examining that tendency among Black voters. Is this happening, and if so, how?

As much as Dems want to ignore this, the disillusionment with major party politics is rampant…even among Black voters. Majority of Black people (51%) say we need a viable 3rd party - up from 48% pre-election. Dems need to put in A LOT of work to reverse Black apathy from 2024.

One of my UCLA Psych students just had their first “first author” paper accepted at Group Processes & Intergroup Relations, so I’m commemorating her achievement with 2 memes…

Disengaged voters (defined in various ways, but basically – folks who don’t vote regularly and pay less attention to politics) drove most of the movement away from Democrats from 2020 to 2024 – this is a trend that’s been ongoing since 2012.

To be a History PhD student concentrating on African American history and witnessing the amount of misinformation spewed on social media particularly on TikTok literally disturbs me. Black historians are literally needed everyday, and remain important pillars in our communities.
