My thoughts about why people are being so mean on here lately is that many of us are having to confront our powerlessness in the face of various crisis, and so some people, in a desperate grasp at some kind of power, imitate what they see powerful people do - be cruel.

And for a few seconds, maybe even a few minutes, they get a dopamine hit that they think feels like power. Then it fades. And the depression returns. And so they do it again and again and again, escalating each time when they don’t get the same rush they used to.
