A quick clip from the pre-race show Richmond Raceway in 1990 featuring a couple excited race fans, a young Mike Joy, the late-great Chris Economaki and Mark Martin describing how he plans to “points race“ as the points leader.

The six most significant and best seasons in dad’s career, in my opinion: 1980, 1986, 1990, 1993, 1998, 2009. Working on dad’s book over the past few years has really solidified this for me. The manuscript is now complete. I look forward to you all reading his full story.

The title is Never Lift. It has a deeper meaning than just driving fast and racing. It’s something that my dad’s dad lived by and it’s something that defined my dad’s life (and still does). You never quit no matter how grim and bad things get. You keep the throttle to the floor.

Six of my favorite stories in dad’s book: - 1977: “Muhammad Ali of Stock Car Racing” - 1982: “Pigpen and Junior” - 1985: dad meets Jack - 1989: Days of Thunder-style rental car destruction - 1990: Dale and dad drive home in the middle of the night - 1993: “Black Tuesday”

There are some great, rarely heard stories about Rusty Wallace, Davey Allison, Alan Kulwicki, Dale Earnhardt, and others in the book. One standout to me is a phone call from Tim Richmond in 1984. It’s a quick story, but it’s deep and rather poignant.
