A saturated day was the perfect opportunity for Emmanuel Jatta 🇬🇲 to enshrine his Squacco Heron in the annals of Skokholm history by painting it on the toilet wall. A cracking find that we can all appreciate for years to come

Spend the weekend on Skokholm and of course had an incredible time. 2 new ringing species - lbb gull and a “colossal” female wheatear as Ian Beggs so eloquently put, potentially travelling to greenland. Looking forward to my next visit already 🐦‍⬛ #skokholm

The first Marsh Harrier of the year went south to sea, there were two Little Ringed Plover on North Pond and a trickle of warblers were around, but it was the seabirds and flowers which stole the show today

Today I left Skokholm Island after spending 3 fantastic months living there. I've had the best time with the best people, and have learnt so many skills that'll help me hugely in the future. I leave the island with fond memories, and a new found love/obsession for GBBGs 🌊🪶

Chestnut-bellied Starling, Lamprotornis pulcher, found by Micheal Colley on 27/6/2024 is a new species for Kartong Bird Observatory. Frequent visitors to areas north of Kartong, especially around Tujering, this is a long overdue addition to the KBO list.

What a brilliant and inspiring weekend at the Young Conservationists’ Hub at Global Birdfair. Thank you to all of our amazing panelists and workshop leaders, the OLF team and particularly Becky Park for organising it all so well.

A nice surprise this afternoon was finding and ringing two large Lapwing pulli. Both should fledge within a couple of days. A new species for Emmanuel, presently working on Gigha, on loan from Kartong Bird Observatory. Kartong Bird Observatory 🇬🇲.

Also fantastic to host our Gambian friend Emmanuel Jatta 🇬🇲 from the Osprey Leadership Foundation & Kartong Bird Observatory 🇬🇲 , joining us to see Ospreys during the European part of their lives as well as visiting the Careys Secret Garden Ringing Station to ring a few African migrants including this Tree Pipit.

It’s been wonderful having Emmanuel Jatta 🇬🇲 in the UK since late March for his Kartong Bird Observatory 🇬🇲 & Osprey Leadership Foundation internship. Huge thanks to Birds of Poole Harbour for a fitting send off for Emmanuel - a brilliant boat trip and a final chance to ring some migrant species he may see again in The Gambia

Earlier this summer, Emmanuel Jatta 🇬🇲 ringed this Osprey, 3R0, at a nest near Rutland Water as part of his Osprey Leadership Foundation & Kartong Bird Observatory 🇬🇲 internship. It went on to fledge successfully and today I may have seen it depart on migration. Let’s hope Emmanuel sees it again in The Gambia!
