Roses. I can never get over the nested softness of their petals. The ballet of them. A leggy stem’s arabesque. A trio of tutus bending with the wind. Scent of straggling gardens in the rain, of childhood, dreams & secrets. No florists’ roses these. They fall like snow.

Each time when I stand in front of it I think: How did he do it! How did he create that reflection of the yellow lemon On the silver ewer WITH PAINT! Just simply incredible. Detail of Willem Kalf's still life in the Rijksmuseum.

Lord Byron read aloud ghost stories from Fantasmagoriana at Villa Diodati on this night, 16 June 1816, proposing afterward that “each write a ghost story”. From this, two masterworks of Gothic literature would be born: Mary Shelley’s #Frankenstein and Dr. Polidori’s The Vampyre.

The Petersyn Witch Fortune Telling Cup. Lovely design & an auction favourite. But information on its origin confused & scant. But I've finally found who Petersyn was & when it was first made - 1909.
