I've already said this, but the post-literate society is already here. Hardly anyone I know my age reads *anything ever* (beyond low-calorie blog posts) and it shows. I am sure most of them read when they were children before something mysteriously destroyed their attention spans

The C18th cult of reason grew out of the religious controversies of the C17th. There were so many competing opinions they became mutually discrediting and people began to look for rational explanations of the world. Wonder if the same will eventually happen with social media
