Anyone passionate about teaching quantum information to an audience that is not quantum literate? And looking to contribute to a project short term? We have a position/contract available. Please get in touch. #quantum #teaching OIST

When citing a huge book in your paper, could you please mention at least a section? You can do it as simple as \cite[sec. 5.1]{book_label}

Bloch theorem also works for finite structures! Eigen modes inside any finite periodic structure can be represented as Bloch waves. It is closely related to Ewald-Oseen extinction theorem

Why don't we have more of these sections in the papers? It is almost always as helpful to know what didn't work. #nlproc Paper: arxiv.org/abs/1911.12543

Welcome our review paper on Optical Forces in APR! ⚡️ I believe it might be a nice cheatsheet for those who are new to the field. Another part of the review is devoted to the question how metasurface might help tune optical forces in numerous applications. aip.scitation.org/doi/full/10.10…

My favourite project so far! Second harmonic field may carry angular momentum which might not be compensated. This leads to the spinning torque according to conservation laws. It can be dominant effect for the transparent particles with axial symmetry! arxiv.org/abs/2210.04021

For the most recent video, I had way too much fun simulating the electric field (or rather, the component of that field responsible for radiation) and how it responds to an accelerating electric charge.

I’ve an immediate vacancy for a postdoc or staff scientist on a project related to integration of NV diamond with WGM resonators. Only suitable for experimentalists with lots of optics experience. Come live on beautiful and peaceful Okinawa in the fabulous OIST

Which symmetry should be broken to achieve the exceptional point in non-PT symmetric resonator? In paper doi.org/10.1103/PhysRe… we answer this question.

If you have ever submitted to Physical Review Letters you know that it can be very time consuming to find all the refs in SM but not in the main text. There is a script to do it automatically! Hope it will helpful to somebody. github.com/toftul/prl-sm-…

Manipulating light with a twist, for working with chiral molecules, eg asymmetric drugs, gets heaps easier thanks to neat insight. Our recent paper in Phys. Rev. Appl. on "acoustic lift" effect with resonant scatterers: anisotropic particle may stably drift in the acoustic wave. Its an acoustic sindewinder sailboat but with sound! A highlight from APS below Ivan Toftul physics.aps.org/articles/v17/s…

Pretty unexpected work for me, it was completely a side project with a wonderful student Rickson Wielian at Research at ANU. But turned out to be quite interesting paper, we figured out T-matrix formalism for topology of the edge states
