New in Visual Studio Code Insiders: Restore Chat to a previous state with checkpoints.

Claude Opus 4.1 is now available in Visual Studio Code! github.blog/changelog/2025…

Playing with improving terminal calls in Visual Studio Code chat - what do y'all think?

Starting today, GPT-5 mini is available in Visual Studio Code! With a 0x multiplier, GPT-5 mini is a lightweight version of OpenAI's most advanced model. Try it out and let us know what you think!

So Visual Studio Code has this new homepage. You can see in the background some binary, so I couldn't help but inspect the page, and yeah, the whole binary isn't repeated at random. It's all written in CSS. So I decoded it to ASCII, and it says: HAPPY_CODING!

VS Code adds support for custom OAI-compatible endpoints This a big win for local AI as it allows us to use any local model provider without vendor lock-in. Big thanks to the VS Code devs and especially Isidor Nikolic for listening to the community feedback and adding this option!

🚀 v1.104 of Visual Studio Code is here! Check out what's new: 🤖 Improved coding agent integration 📄 AGENTS.md file support for better context 🔍 New Auto mode (Preview) for smart model selection 🔑 Model flexibility via BYOK extension API …and more: aka.ms/VSCodeRelease

Super excited to bring hundreds of state-of-the-art open models (Kimi K2, Qwen3 Next, gpt-oss, Aya, GLM 4.5, Deepseek 3.1, Hermes 4, and dozens new ones every day) directly into Visual Studio Code & Microsoft Copilot, thanks to Hugging Face inference providers! This is powered by our amazing partners

You can now access Groq models directly in VS Visual Studio Code with Hugging Face. Just BYOK. 🔑

The latest Visual Studio Code release brings auto model selection (preview) - a way to have the best model picked for you based on current capacity and performance. Currently being rolled out to all GitHub Copilot users in Visual Studio Code starting with individuals. Learn more: aka.ms/VSCode/AutoMod…

We are rolling out experiments to provide larger context windows in VS Code Insiders, now at 200k for GPT-5 and Claude Sonnet 4. Thank you Visual Studio Code community for the feedback!
