The purpose of research is to use the scientific method to provide an understanding of reality. Throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, new data has been released that we can use to gain an understanding of how the virus works. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

A research question I developed today was, how does emotional therapy and physical therapy impact the recovery from an ACL injury among female soccer athletes? As an athlete myself, this is especially important as an injury can take a toll on you. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Today, we discussed different ways to keep track of the articles we find based on our research question. It is crucial to keep organized because it allows us to quickly refer to the articles we have found. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Just downloaded Zotero on my laptop. I will be using this application to help organize my research findings! #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

We learned the difference of a directional vs a non-directional title in class yesterday. A directional title tells you the outcome of the study. A non-directional title tells you what the authors are trying to find (1/2). #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

The title of an article I found was, "Psychological impairments after ACL injury – Do we know what we are addressing? Experiences from sports physical therapists." This is a non-directional title because we don't know the outcome of the study (2/2). #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

This week, we learned about the 4 types of probability sampling: simple random, systematic, stratified and cluster. We designed a research question and used Skittles to enhance our understanding of these 4 types. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

I have been researching articles about ACL injury in female athletes and how it physically and emotionally effects their return to sports. We learned about inclusion criteria in class this week. Having an ACL injury would be an important factor. Kyle S. Beyer #UrsinusHEP261

We discussed historical examples of unethical research this week. The case of Henrietta Lacks was one example I learned about prior to this class. It is upsetting that samples of her cells were taken without her permission, making this unethical. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Completed my CITI training last night. I learned a lot of information through each module and am feeling more confident about ethics in research. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Reviewed the PowerPoints and completed the quizzes for my exam tomorrow. Feeling good about the material. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

I attended the HEP Journal Club last week, which was lead by Dr. Beyer and Michelle. I learned about how some athletes return to their sport and develop myocarditis after testing positive for covid. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

We went over some changes being made to our class this week because of our responses to a mid semester evaluation survey we filled out. Feedback is really important because it creates a better learning environment for everyone. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Dr. Beyer went over the reasons why we should submit a grant. One that really stood out to me was that it is a great experience for a resume. Having that on your resume makes you stand out from other people, which I think is very important. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

We did some data collection this week in the lab. I had a lot of fun doing the vertical jump test because it was something I’ve never done before. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

When entering data into Excel, we learned to double check our units and to use decimals appropriately. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

I am feeling much better about using Excel after walking through the steps of creating tables and graphs today in class. Hopefully I can use these skills in my other classes as well! #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

For my bar graph, I compared the averages between waist circumference and hip circumference. I made sure to add error bars as well! #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

I found this article during my literature search. Something that stuck out to me was not only does the sport you play effect your return to sport rate, but also the position you play. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/23… #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer

Today, Dr. Beyer went over what the null hypothesis is when it comes to statistical testing. His null hypothesis was that he is not a psychic. He used a deck of cards and guessed them incorrectly, making him not a psychic. #UrsinusHEP261 Kyle S. Beyer
