Just a sick storm outside Beaver, OK. Structure was pristine. Produced a brief funnel before being over taken by the MCS a short time ago

It’s looking like depending on cloud cover, as shown below, some states may have a chance to see some aurora skies tonight. G3 or higher conditions may occur!

Wildfire smoke from Canada will likely cause some minor impacts this evening, primarily relating to air quality:

Storms in Virginia currently producing damaging wind gusts, and will likely continue to do so as they move east. Some tornado potential with these cells, especially the one in between Blacksburg and New Castle, but nothing looks particularly immediate

Velocity products from this radar are also currently not operational, at least from where I get my radar data, so it may be difficult for me to provide live updates if tornadic potential seems pretty imminent. Either way, keep a close watch on these cells

A 5% tornado risk is in place for these storms as they move downstream.

NEW: We have a tornado WATCH up for the entire DMV, as well as Philadelphia and much of New Jersey, until 11 PM tonight. Tornado WARNINGS will be issued for individual storms if they appear poised to produce a tornado. Stay tuned throughout the evening!

A tornado is possible over the next few hours with both the line of storms near Harrisonberg, VA, and the cluster near Fredericksburg, VA. Any tornado would most likely be weak, but stay weather-aware regardless

Broad rotation exists on both of these cells southwest of Fredericksburg, Virginia. Monitoring closely.

A significant solar storm appears likely over the next few days, bringing northern lights far into the southern US. Aurora will likely be viewable on the horizon (in dark areas) as far south as Memphis, TN, Oklahoma City, OK, and Sacramento, CA.
