Prof Bernadka Dubicka talks about the biggest backlog ever for NHS mental health service with anecdotal reports of waits of over a year. There are chronic staff shortages with 1 in 10 consultant psychiatry posts vacant.

The reason we need to stop using ‘PTSD’ is because the ‘D’ stands for ‘disorder’, which means that the person is being diagnosed with a psychiatric disorder, suggesting their trauma responses are maladaptive and abnormal, when in fact, they are normal, natural and valid.

Antidepressants withdrawal "the tide is finally turning.... the psychiatric profession has started to acknowledge that these serious issues have long been neglected and minimised". Proud to have written this a while back with Michael P. Hengartner, PhD & Dr John Read cambridge.org/core/journals/…

You don’t have to care about, or solve, or consider your abuser’s own trauma. You don’t have to ‘understand’. You don’t have to ‘take into account that they had a hard childhood’. You don’t have to excuse their abuse. Their trauma is not a reason to abuse you or harm you. Ever.

Under ⁦Boris Johnson⁩’s planned social care charges, someone who owned a £1 million house would be able to protect over 90% of their asset - yet someone with a home worth £70k would lose almost everything. Levelling up? This is daylight robbery. theguardian.com/society/2021/n…

We should never say: "Antidepressants are effective 'treatments' for mental 'illness'." At most, we should rather say: "Antidepressants alter states of mind & body in ways that may or may not be experienced as useful by the individual in question".

There's a problem here. IAPT & 'group CBT' is not therapy, I'm sorry. It's almost as if its being set up to fail. When it doesn't really help, they will say, "well, we tried therapy and it didn't work." theguardian.com/society/2021/n…

"What if psychiatry's role is to become the repository for our fears of madness so we can carry on without the burden?" Dr James Davies (PhD) 💭 Awais Aftab Nev Jones PhD Continued tonight at 8pm, Amsterdam Time (English spoken): psychiatrieenfilosofie.nl/webinars-ter-g…

Borderlines can be caregiver/rescuers. They perpetually try to prove their worth with these behaviors. Lots of 'em are psychotherapists.

If parliament knows that leaving EU will damage our country and destroy our union it's their duty to vote against the referendum.
