With the #SIDS4 outcome now agreed, 🇮🇪 alongside 🇵🇼 was pleased to co-chair today’s UN Steering Committee on Partnerships for SIDS to review progress & look ahead.

The Steering Committee can play a crucial role in delivering on the commitments to be made at #SIDS4 this May.

Today we celebrate 26 years of the Good Friday Agreement, a landmark moment.

2024 also marks 25 years of North-South cooperation. With the Agreements’ institutions up and running across 3 strands, our shared focus is on stability, prosperity and hope for the future 🕊️ #GFA26

Today Fergal Mythen - Ambassador of Ireland to the UN participated in the UN Development High Level Partnership Forum on Climate Security & Stabilisation in the #Sahel .

🇮🇪 remains a strong supporter of the UN Climate Security Mechanism and its work in Africa, including in West Africa & the Sahel.

🇮🇪 addressed today’s veto debate in the 🇺🇳GA on the situation in the #MiddleEast .

SCR 2728 calling for a ceasefire in #Gaza –while long overdue–was a step in the right direction.

This resolution is binding & must be implemented immediately.

Today, Martin Schüepp & Edem Wosornu UN Humanitarian briefed the #GoF of Action on Conflict & Hunger.

The full & consistent implementation of 🇺🇳 #UNSC Res 2417 & #IHL is urgently needed to address conflict-induced famine currently facing millions around the 🌍, incl. in Gaza & Sudan.

Over 130 troops returned home to 🇮🇪 today, bringing to a close 12 years of service to the 🇺🇳UN Disengagement Observer Force peacekeeping mission in Syria.

Since 2012, Irish peacekeepers have played a key role in delivering on UN Disengagement Observer Force’s mandate amid difficult circumstances in 🇸🇾.

This week, Ireland participated in important discussions on a possible convention on #CrimesAgainstHumanity .

🇮🇪 strongly supports the elaboration of a convention, which would fill a stark gap in our international justice system. ⚖️

Today is International Day for Mine Awareness.

🇮🇪 supports mine action programmes across Africa, Latin America, SE Asia & the Middle East.

We will continue to empower communities to stay safe & avoid the dangers of landmines through awareness, knowledge & preventative measures.

Ireland is proud to support the 🇺🇳 Joint SDG Fund in 2024.

🇮🇪 remains committed to working with the United Nations and other Member States to accelerate progress on the #GlobalGoals and move toward a more equitable & sustainable world. 🌍

This month, Malta has assumed the UNSC Presidency.

➡️Role of youth in addressing security challenges in the Mediterranean

➡️Middle East, incl. the Palestinian Question

➡️Women, Peace & Security, incl. #CRSV

Today, 🇮🇪 co-chaired a meeting of the UN Friends of Vision alongside 🇦🇬 & 🇧🇩, to discuss the Group’s plan of action for 2024 & the path to the Global Eye Health Summit.

Today Fergal Mythen - Ambassador of Ireland to the UN was pleased to attend a Friends of Security Council Report briefing by Security Council Report Executive Director Karin Landgren. 📝

Ireland 🇮🇪 reaffirmed our support for SCR’s critical work to advance the transparency & effectiveness of the UN Security Council.

Ireland strongly supports the UN Resident Coordinator System ( #RCS ), and we recognise its vital role in the achievement of the #SDGs .

🇮🇪 is pleased to contribute €1.5m to the Special Purpose Trust Fund in support of its essential work.

On 27/3, we recall that Article 27(3) of the 🇺🇳 #UNCharter requires a party to a dispute to abstain from voting in the #UNSC .

This provision ensures fairness & impartiality in the work of the Security Council.

As an ACT member, 🇮🇪 calls for its full and consistent application.

Together with Palau, 🇮🇪 was pleased to co-chair today's meeting of the Steering Committee on partnerships for Small Island Developing States.

The Committee looked at how it can enhance its work & support the delivery of the SIDS4 outcome in 🇦🇬, along with its follow-up. #SIDS4
