Thank you Minister of Youth & Sports YB Hannah Yeoh and team for hearing us out on the rapid emergence of new psychoactive substances (NPS), which pose a significant risk to health, especially among our youths.

Powerful piece by Nadirah Babji on obstetric violence as a form of gender-based violence. She argues that women’s pain is often dismissed and underplayed, drawing on tragic realities such as the case of Punitha Mohan. codeblue.galencentre.org/2025/02/birthi…

✨My essay in The Lancet this week has made the front page!✨ (I didn’t know about this 🤗) ‘Reflect, Collaborate and Listen’ looks at why doctors don’t listen and the urgent need to rebalance the power dynamic in the patient - doctor relationship. thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Receiving critiques and comments does not always indicate a lack of competence; rather, it highlights opportunities for continuous improvement. I hope Malaysians can approach this with openness and a willingness to improve, rather than responding defensively.

Thank you Melisa Melina Idris for shining a light on this. Hope this fosters a deeper understanding that women affected by current drug laws are a diverse group, each face unique challenges. Their experiences differ from those of men, therefore the need for gender-responsive systems.

Our understanding about “health behavior” has always been too narrow. We need to shift from creating health-literate individuals to building health-literate systems. In other words, we need to stop blaming individuals simply because it is easier to do so.

Not really surprised as we have always suspected that fentanyl has already reached our shores. What’s surprising is the lack of discussions on preparedness. How do we deal with this?

Malaysia mourns the loss of a quiet giant. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, our 5th Prime Minister, has passed away. We called him Pak Lah. A leader who showed us that strength doesn’t always need to be loud. 😢🇲🇾

The recent bill amendment in Malaysia is labeled as ‘decriminalization of drug use,’ but we argue unequivocally in this Viewpoint that it is not. Link: sciencedirect.com/science/articl… International Drug Policy Consortium (Asia)

Had an honest conversation with YB Hannah Yeoh today about the realities within our society. The issues of HIV and drug use among our youth compel us, as adults, to rethink our current approaches and respond with better strategies.
