Probably because it was my first Olympics, so personally as mind blowing as the moon landing a year later - defying gravity much harder on Earth!

When we think of international students we tend to think of Universities, not further education. But at The Bedford College Group we had students of 133 nationalities in my last year. Here are the biggest groups & the end of the long tail

If these Institute for Fiscal Studies and Nuffield Trust projections are based only on demographics, FE growth likely to be even higher with increased progression rates once at college? Keeping students for 2 or 3 years post-16, rather than 1 year increases numbers in a way not open to schools

Fun watching this excellent film in unusually busy Pwllheli cinema. True tale of importance of teachers/education in fostering talent. Though tend to over-Billy-Elliotise success stories from tough communities rather than praise the more prosaic education system underpinning them

Satisfaction surveys pick up absolute poor performance but also those with very high expectations despite success. When benchmarking, many great FE colleges often had lowish satisfaction scores, yet we still routinely think high scores = high performance, not lowish expectations?

What a bumper crop of brilliant FE leaders winning honours. Delighted for those from whom I learned so much while CEO. Congratulations Peter Peter Mayhew-Smith, Gill, Janet & Verity

Given our long history of championing sustainability, pleased to see The Bedford College Group was the top recipient from this scheme. It has made a big difference to the group's estate feweek.co.uk/government-end…

As a relatively new Knowledge Schools Trust director can’t take any credit, though can take great pride, in this exceptional report. A school judged inadequate only a few years ago. Same staff, new leadership. Brilliant for #Bedfordshire & #LeightonBuzzard. Great work
