StanisƂaw KopaƄski, born in 1895, lost an eye in the Polish-Bolshevik War.

During WW2, he evacuated to France and was deployed to Syria to become the commander of the Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade, which made a name for itself in the Siege of Tobruk.
