“Failing to understand the past opens the door for a new generation of politicians and media outlets to continue to promote racism and anti-immigration policies.” #HostileEnvironment

.Birmingham City University Press Office says it can't sponsor your Tier 2 visa if you’re a migrant, but would love to hire you if you “would be eligible to obtain a visa via another route” Thanks for nothing Birmingham City University Press Office! jobs.bcu.ac.uk/Vacancy.aspx?i…

In most places migrant staff also have to bear the burden of correcting HR mistakes or assumptions about how long their certificate of sponsorship should be granted for. #internationalandbroke

Of the students who responded to our study on international students during #COVID19, 56% indicated that they were either now destitute or at risk of becoming destitute: migrantsrights.org.uk/wp-content/upl… In other words, there are no safety nets for international students, esp now! 1/4

Dear colleagues based in the UK, I need some information: are your Universities providing full scholarships to international PhD students post-Brexit? Were they doing it already before Brexit for all international students or only EU applicants?

Wondering if anyone following International and Broke has any bright ideas on how to contact UKVI / Home Office about a BRP that is still not been received, 4 months after it was sent? #ukvi /thread

Just a reminder that many UK universities, while promoting ideas of internationalisation, global citizenship and academic exchange, do not cover migration costs. In many cases, universities do not provide advice or provide misleading information, increasing the costs.

The Wellcome absolutely leading the way with their new grant schemes in so many wonderful ways. Can we please make this the new norm for grants?! 👇👇

Lotty Brand International and Broke Wellcome This is a great development. One could only hope that other funders (and employers) follow. I don't mean to be picky, but only for named researchers? What if you recruit someone (who happens to need a visa) later on?

I am so tired of being a migrant professional in HE. Universities want to flaunt your ‘internationalism’ while at the same time refuse to create a level playing field for you whether that’s financially or culturally, so you know what unis? This is what I think International and Broke
